I could easily do this with ubuntu... also I could include a lot of the benchmarking programs I outlined in my other thread - but I could preinstall them so people didn't have to deal with that...

Go for it.

I'll try to mess around with KNOPPIX over the weekend, too.

There's a distro very similar to what you all speak of here, called Overclockix. It hasn't been updated in nearly 3 years though.

It's based on Knoppix.

I am more familiar with Debian, so I'm thinking of messing around with KNOPPIX, which should be relatively simple. The Linux Live Scripts are a tad complex for me.

I encourage others to try to get a live cd working. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Gentoo live cd is working.

Edit: biatchi, I noticed that with the Folding Forums link you provided, there are some distributions for folding. One of these is Overclockix, but the project is "now dormant."

Subscribed! I leave Tuesday to India for 2-3 months, but when I get back I had better see some serious progress! I hope to run a Linux based server when I get back, and I would be all too proud if it could be an OCN distro... although it wouldn't be as fun on a Live CD. Whatever, just get to work and make it guuuuud!

Also, I know very little about Linux code, and have very limited experience even using Linux-based systems, but I'm all for this idea. It would be super-sweet if there was a benchmarking package that was made by the OCN gurus, and of course included in the distro... but I've seen how hard it can be to make a benchmarking program that is fair to all CPUs... but I don't care. I just wanna see a working distro in two months time!!

EDIT: it would also be kinda sweet if there was a fileshare utility built into it... so you can set files/folders to share, and select OCN members with access, etc. I'm sure thats something that wouldn't be toooo hard to code up, and made with enough safety to keep our systems unhacked... no?
