Of course. It'll probably end up being a sourceforge project. But the target is for people like OCN members, who need to test systems for stability, etc,.

Some more apps I found:
powertweak
prelink
MPrime (Is this open source?)
bonnie++

Sounds interesting. I can do some research and post what I find. I don't have a lot of free time though, but I'm really interested in making a liveCD.

I'd be more than happy to dedicate bandwidth to a distro torrent or some other way to get it to all the testers/users. It's only a 1mb up, but it would still be quite efficient.

And I'd test it on my own system of course.

I've tested around with KNOPPIX over the weekend and haven't had much luck. I have two isos, but both don't boot past isolinux. (I've been following this guide, although it isn't specific to KNOPPIX 5.1.1, and the mkisofs gives minor format errors)

Anything will be helpful.

Are there any other open source applications that should be added? What about folding applications/interfaces (they need to be GPL license compatible)?

Sorry for the bump, but this is rather significant.

First successful build
I created a successful build of this overclocker's distribution. It is a livecd based off of Morphix, using ShiftLinux build instructions, from a clean minimal Debian install.

Software:
Iceweasel (firefox)
Gaim ("pidgin")
GKrellm
NVclock
Xfce4
powertweak
conky
bonnie++
lm-sensors

The iso is only 243mb, and seems to be using very little ram (64mb). The problems with it are: no custom shortcuts to apps on desktop. Xfce automatically added some apps to the menu, but most of them don't launch properly. GKrellm and conky don't launch automatically. The GUI does not launch automatically. No special themes or wallpapers.

We need to come up with name, so that I can create a sourceforge project for this so that I can upload this build, allowing anyone to download and test it.

Sweet Nice going!

How about OCNix?

I was thinking about that name in the back of my mind, I'm sure...

I've created a sourceforge project, which just now needs to be approved. Once it is I will upload the prototype build...

I'm still very much learning how to do all this. I don't know how to customize the gui for the distro itself (chroot, I assume...), or how to fix some various small problems. Any help would be appreciated. I more or less followed this documentation to create this build.

I will have a read of it tommorow. I still keep meaning to gave a look at getting a live Arch cd working from the Larch scripts but never get round to it.

The working proto is 64bit i presume?

What is involved is the approval process?
