Debian sid (unstable) does not have python 2.5 in its repositories. And I have very little experience with compiling programs. I might give it a shot, though. Maybe there's a 3rd party python 2.5 debian repository.

Hmmm, that sucks. 2.5 is python's stable version. It should be easy enough to compile, hopefully.
