For installing things? What do you mean? I'm presuming you don't mean re-creating synaptic?

Yep Compiz is installed and just needs enabling in autostarted applications once 3d drivers are installed, Gnome and KDE will just need installing if you want them.

I just need to get a a build to boot without kernel panicing.

I always have a problem with arch where I get a kernel panic - I have to boot into the recovery mode and then do a mkinitcpio and it works.

I've just done that I need to downgrade to a 26.23 kernel because klibc does not play that nicely with 26.24 (which is installed on my build) The only Arch install disk i can find has a 26.21 kernel

If i can find one with a 26.23 kernel(I must have one somewhere) i can boot using that and rebuild klibc and some other stuff with abs then, Install kernel26vanilla from aur that uses a 26.23 kernel and i should then be able to livify it and it not kernel panic on me

I'll do it later on because i have some stuff to do now.

Strange. even numbered Kernel numbers are supposed to be deemed "stable," odd numbers "unstable."

It's not that anything is 'unstable' it's just something has changed in the new 24 branch of kernels and klibc doesn't for whatever reason like it and makes init kernel panic. I'm compiling the last of the 23 kernels and I'm going to try it with the ramdisk from the current kernel, Hopefully it will work but i can't say that i am overly confident about it.

Version2 if you aren't using a brand new kernel you should find a way to address a recent security exploit.
info: http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/02/10/2011257
patch: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-...g-and-fix.html http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/how-to...ux-kernel.html
possible fix without the need to recompile: http://platon.sk/article.php?vmsplic...ility-fast-fix

I haven't tried any of these yet as the kernel I'm using currently has the fix applied but the kernel i am downgrading to doesn't so i will have to fix it.

He he, that would be amazing, but no. I mean things that will un-package file extensions and then chmod +x the file then run it (or whatever needs to be done)
