Yeah, Arch has the makepkg.conf which uses ABS (which is a MUST HAVE) that can be tweaked with CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS so I really do think Arch is the best choice.

If you wanted optimizations you could create several liveCD's -- say one for Core2Duo, one for Athlon64, and one for the old 32 bit i686's.

I think it would be easier to just use a binary distro as a base. Making liveCD's nowadays is not that difficult since there have been a number of tools written that automates the process.
I would never have guessed gcc could do that...

/sarcasm

The optimization flags go with any compilation done with gcc, not just distro's and since I use it at least 2-3 times a day, you don't need to treat me like a nub.

I think we've already decided that a binary based distro would be easiest, hence the choice of Arch...

Gentoo live CD has many issues. It refuses to even boot on my rig.

I am still trying to get OCNix to come out of Knoppix. The hardest part is trying to keep it updated - waaaaaaaaaaay too much to download each time a new version of the suite comes out.

But ubuntu looks highly attractive now because it has an official Phoronix Test Suite package. Has anybody here tried using Ubuntu's live remaster tool to create a DVD of ubuntu with phoronix suite ? Its going to be the easiest thing to do. Maybe a Live USB will be a cool idea.

If possible could we get a few people on IRC tonight, say around 6:00 P.M. EST, so we can get this off the ground? IRC is at sourcecoders.org:6667

Thus it highly customisable and ver easy to customise, while also being very light weight.

Anouther must that I think should be included is conky. Though we should package it pre-configured to match the OS theme/look and to display the best summary of info for overclocking etc.

Excuse any bad spelling etc, its late and I've had a long long day at the uni. Id be game to help to though.
