Default The official OCNix software discussion

Before we dive in head first, we need to have a solid list of what software we want to include, where its coming from, who's going to help maintain it, etc, etc, etc.

HACKhalo2 is going to list what's in the old release. He mentioned a lot of it is out of date, but I'm sure that we can find some similar packages to replace those.

Also, XFCE 4.6.1 is being commited to the SVN repo by HACKhalo2. So looks like we have a first item for the list!

We have decided on Openbox over all other window managers.

I will update this post with everything as we come up with it.

Some revisions:
Window Manager : OpenBox

Also:
conky 1.7.1.1
nvclock 0.8b4
PerlMon 0.2.0
rovclock 0.6e
simpleconf 1.3(?)
cpufrequtils
FAH-install 0.2
FAHmon 2.3.99.1
Phoronix Test Suite 1.8.1

Well, this is the list that I came up with so far:
  • XFCE 4.6.1
  • conky 1.7.1.1
  • nvclock 0.8b4
  • PerlMon 0.2.0
  • rovclock 0.6e
  • simpleconf 1.3(?)
  • cpufrequtils
  • FAH-install 0.2
  • FAHmon 2.3.99.1 (to be replaced by a conky script later on)
  • Phoronix Test Suite 1.8.1

I know some of these programs are in Arch. Once LiveCD's can be created, hopefully this list and the cources in the SVN repo can be used to compile these programs. Hopefully

I edited the my original post to reflect whats currently in OCNix's Repo. I lost quite a bit when I had a sudden power outage (Damn Ext4). I also got the phoronix test suite to replace some of the out of date benchmarking programs.

I'm also researching how to build an Arch Linux LiveCD. I (currently) can't do this because I don't have any CD-RW's or have Arch Linux Installed... Yay...

I'll tell your what. I made a VM a while back specifically for testing live cd's. I'll recreate it and post it on here. It saves a load of CD's and the hassle of burning RW's every time you make a change.

Thank you! I'm going to have to wait to use that until I get my SigRig, this Lappy hardly has enough power to run Ubuntu without overheating

And I wasn't planing to use anything other than pacman. I also added cpufrequtils to the repo. I'm going to change my post to reflect the changes.

No GNOME. We're going with Openbox for its lightweightness.

What's the progress on this?

Also, what are the installation requirements? I'd love to be able to try this out on one of my backups with a 3.2Gb (total) HDD.
