Also I might add that of those 8 benchmarks, the 8800 ultra outperforms the budget gamer card 9800gtx+ by 2.5fps average.

The difference in both price and performance between the 8800Ultra and HD4850 is not very large. If the 8800Ultra is an "Extreme Gamer Card", what does that make the HD4870? ... or how about the HD4870 X2? Please stop with the blatant fanboyism and be realistic. Thanks.

He DID say it was made to be an extreme gamer card.

And to me, 9 fps or so is a pretty big jump. "Not very large" need not apply.

I see what you're saying. But they're "made to be" originally is largely irrelevant at this point. What they are now, and what their are prices now, are what matters.

And 56.875 -> 65.25 FPS is less than a 15% difference in performance. To me... moderate difference, maybe. Very large, no. But call it what you will.

According to the Guru3d VGA Charts, which are far from law but provide our only real comparison benchmark including 8 games at 4 different resolutions for over 20 video cards.

Luckily this exists, so facts can be clearly stated.

Over the 8 games, at 1600x1200 res (what I play at personally)

Radeon 4850 Average FPS: 56.875
8800 ultra Average FPS: 65.25

Radeon HD4850 - $182.99
$3.22/FPS

8800 Ultra - $199.99
$3.06/FPS

The radeon 4850 performs substantially worse in every game except for WIC, where it gets 1 more fps than the 8800 Ultra. Not only is this an $800 card, not produced to be a budget gamer card like the HD4850, it is a better value.

As far as temperature goes:

The HD4850 peaks at 86 degrees - Source

The 8800 ultra peaks at 86 degrees - Source

So it's impossible to say that it has better temperatures, sorry.

*hides from fact haters*
Good luck trying to overclock the 90nm 8800Ultra.

the 4850 peaks at 86degrees because its single slot and I'll bet you they didn't use the fan fix. The 8800Ultra is dual slot AND it peaks at 86... thats just plain bad.

It also costs more at $199, vs $169 for the 4850
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...nd&Order=PRICE

The 8800Ultra also uses more power, which is inarguable.

And as for the FPS totals.... I don't even know what to say to that. They must have been using catalys 4.2s or something, because every single review I've seen has put the 4850 much higher than that. That review has the 4850 performing worse than not only the 8800GT, but the 9600GT and the 8800GTS 320 @ 1600x1200 which is F-ing retarded and you know it.

15% is the difference between a GTX 260 and GTX 280..Which would you rather pay $500 for?
