how come everyone says that, my 250 and 160 have been going great for 3 years. There any proof of it or is it like the fake yate loons conspiracy

all maxtor drives I've ever owned have failed. Hopefully they have been making improvements. I've been using Seagate and western digital for a while and their fail-rate seems to be a lot less. I've only had a couple drives die.

they are knows as the deathstar. i changed 30+ of these HDDs out when i was a tech. they are bad news.

Tried to avoid Hitachi's laptop drive since they failed on me 2 times, but I'm not sure how they do on desktop drives...

hitachi is that bad eh? i bought a 7200rpm 200gb hdd for my laptop... lame

but that is a pretty decent price for a 500gb hdd
