the win741 deal only seem to offer the home edition yet i have seen a couple posts around the net that indicate one can also get professional with this student deal. Any one have any insight as to this appearent discrepancy?

I had the same problem but I later figured it out. MS kind of hides it a little. Here are step by step instructions I posted in another thread:

Here is the page you are directed to after you click the link in the email. Click on the "Click here" link to the right of "You can also get Windows 7 Professional for $29.99" that is near the middle of the page.

Now here's where you can add Pro to your cart. Just select what version you want (32-bit or 64-bit) and click the "Pre-Order" button.

Now Pro is in your cart and you can download it on the release date for free or buy a DVD for $13.

I see a bubble that has you choosing 32 bit or 64 bit.

You have to choose one or the other?

I thought the Pro edition was like the Vista Ultimate where you get both 32 and 64 bit.

Yes, you can only choose one or the other. The link to download it is only for the version you chose (32-bit or 64-bit). Getting both the 32-bit and 64-bit discs could be the case for the retail box version (I don't know for sure) but not for this digital download student version. You don't actually get anything in the mail unless you opt for the disc for $13 extra, which is still just a disc and not the retail box.

Upgrade (ignore the red oval it's just the screen shot I had on hand), as you can see by the title. After you verify your email and click the link to buy that is where you are taken (the screen shot below).

There is a bit of a hassle to get an ISO created: link. Though the easiest way is to put it on a flash drive: link.

Below is how I clean installed and activated my 7 Pro Upgrade:
In the beginning of the install, select Custom instead of Upgrade. Near the end when prompted for the product key, don't enter anything and click "Next." When in Windows, click the start button, right click "Computer" and click "Properties." Scroll to the bottom and click "Change product key." Enter your upgrade key and activate Windows. Dance around the room throwing the money you saved in the air.

Note: Last step optional.

There is no deal on the full version that I'm aware of. Why do you guys even want the full version? The upgrade version is just as easy and cheaper. The only difference is you don't enter the product key during install but instead do it in Windows.

Below is how I clean installed and activated my 7 Pro Upgrade:
In the beginning of the install, select Custom instead of Upgrade. Near the end when prompted for the product key, don't enter anything and click "Next." because you need to have a previous version of windows to do the upgrade... I've always run linux and now window 7 RC as free options. I have no version to "upgrade"
