Default Is Vista making my computer slow?

So I just got a new laptop, and it came with Vista. It's an Asus gaming laptop, but it's been pretty poor while trying to play WoW. I've been trying to figure out what the problem is. It seems while I'm playing WoW or any other game, my CPU is running at max load. Is this a Vista problem, or is something wrong with my CPU. Games run perfectly fine on XP on my desktop. The specs of my laptop are as follows.

CPU: C2D T7500 2.2Ghz
Ram: 2ghz DDR2 667
Video Card: GeForce 8600M GT 256MB
OS: Vista Home Premium

I know this can run WoW really easily, and I even turned the graphics down on WoW to medium settings, but I'm still getting frames in the 10-20's. Any suggestions?

update your video drivers, OEM based ones are crap.

Visit laptopvideo2go.com for all the latest nvidia drivers and the modded INF's to allow for laptop installation.

I'm using these on my laptop with 8600M GT with the modded INF and I'm getting framerates and quality better than with my 7900GS in my desktop.

Good luck!

ugh. I downloaded the drivers and I'm getting this error while trying to install them.

'The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit.'

Did you replace the INF in the driver package with the one listed on the website?

You MUST do that for it to work with a mobile card.
