Default Why Microsoft must abandon Vista to save itself

Its just a blog, but interesting points.

Quote:
With a host of issues that are inexcusable and features that are taken from the Mac OS X and Linux playbook, Microsoft has once again lost sight of what we really want.
Quote:
According to a recent report titled "Windows Vista Still Underperforming in U.S. Retail" from NPD, Vista sales are significantly behind XP sales during its early days. Even worse for Redmond, some are reverting to XP, citing issues with compatibility and overall design.
Quote:
SP1 will do nothing but fix the holes and issues we currently know about and create even more. As we all know from the days of Windows ME and even XP...
Quote:
For the first time on any operating system, we're not even allowed to backup our favorite movies? Come on.
Quote:
I also find it interesting that Microsoft decided to take the user access control concept from Mac OS X and make it much worse.
Quote:
Not only does it cost too much, it requires more to run than XP, there is still poor driver support, and that draconian licensing scheme is a by-product of Microsoft picking on the wrong people.

No offense, but this should have been posted in the "Operating systems" section, this is a blog, ie editorial and not really news.

While I will not be moving to Vista any time soon, it is far from that bad. Microsoft just needs to fix it with a service pack or two, just look at how much better XP got with a service pack or two.

The DRM is annoying, however there was massive pressure on operating system developers to prevent piracy.

Yea this isn't news......and it's a waste of time. Vista is a great OS, and I smell bias.

The media created a strong bias against Vista, this is just a demonstration of this bias.

I remember a few months ago a segment on Vista on CNN, they reported how you had to buy a new computer to upgrade to Vista, they didn't even mention that it is possible to upgrade anything.

The security, speed, everything are very good. Of course requirements are going to go up, thats a given, the drivers now for Vista are much better than XP's were at this stage in its life.

Vista isnt selling as good because XP is a good OS. When XP came out, what was before it? Thats right, Windows ME, the biggest POS ever. People upgraded to get rid of ME because it sucked so hard.

End of Story.

Not true.

Most people who were late adopters of XP were W2K users. W2K was probably the most stable version of windows EVER. XP was just W2K with a prettier interface, for the most part.

I like Vista x64. Great OS. Still needs fine tuning, but it's better than pre-SP1 XP.

Vista is a fat, bloated SOB. However, this source doesn't really say anything factual, it's all opinions. Vista has its good sides, but personally I do not like it.

Im not impressed by Vista. I could care less about transparent program windows. Its a resource hogging piece of bloatware and Vista fanboys are too blind to realize that. Im certain that people viciously defended Windows ME back in the day and claimed that it "pwned". Of course when Windows 2000 came out, everyone immediately jumped ship.
