Default Vista SP1 Water Mark Removal V.668

SOURCE: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/1...rk-on-desktop/

The evaluation copy watermark will be displayed as a semi-transparent mark on desktop even though the Vista system is genuine and already activated, or stay activated when check in System Properties. It seems like the watermark is planted based on the fact the SP1 beta or RC release is limited time usage version, which will expire on sometime in future. And the previous cracked user32.dll.mui that remove the watermark may no longer work in Vista SP1 Build 6001.17042 version 658.

To hide and remove the evaluation copy watermark from the desktop of Vista SP1 v.658 edition, a new hacked user32.dll.mui need to be used.

Download the new patched user32.dll.mui (user32.dll.V258.rar) from the forum.

Then take ownership and full permission control of user32.dll.mui the C:\Windows\System32\en-US folder (guide on taking ownership and control in Vista or add Take Ownership to right click menu). Finally, (backup first) replace the user32.dll.mui file with the patched version of user32.dll.mui downloaded. You must log on to Vista as an administrator.

Update: Patched user32.dll.mui for Vista SP1 RC1 (v.668)

IF ABOVE ONE DOES NOT WORK TRY THIS ONE BELOW

MY MOD

There are 2 ways to get rid of the watermark:

1. Replace your original user32.dll.mui file with my patched version of the file.
2. Edit your own user32.dll.mui file using a resource hacker.

Option 1:

1. Go to your 'C:\Windows\System32\xy-XY' directory and locate user32.dll.mui (Where C:\ is the drive you installed Vista on, and 'xy-XY' is the folder corresponding to your language: en-US for English, fr-FR for French, de-DE for german, etc)

2. Right-click user32.dll.mui and select Properties. Go to the Security tab and click the 'Advanced' button. Go to the 'Owner' tab and click the 'Edit' button. Select 'Administrators' and click 'Apply'. You have now taken ownership of the file, as Windows will point out to you.

3. Close the property windows. Right-click user32.dll.mui again and select Properties. Go to the Security tab again, click the Advanced button. Now double-click 'Administrators' in the list and tick the 'allow' box for 'Full control'. Close the property windows again.

4. Now, rename user32.dll.mui to 'user32.dll.mui.bak'. This way you have a backup, just in case. If you don't want a backup, delete it.

5. Finally, copy my patched user32.dll.mui file to the same directory as the original file.

6. Reboot and you're done! No more annoying watermark on your desktop!
