I was trying to find something about start up programs, restricted programs and just getting Vista to run some darn programs. Things like Riva or the dual core activation. I read about how you can run them as scheduled events at startup. Did anyone see that, know where that guide is (or can write a new one). I like to keep the UAC on, as I am a masochistic.

UAC is not needed as long as you aren't
.some people can maintain a 100% clean system with ONLY a firewall. with that being said, as long as you have any computer knowledge, UAC isn't entirely necessary. IMO.

Don't click popups.
Don't associate your browser w/ anything porn or ActiveX related. Don't install anything that doesn't come in a box or printed sleeve (or for that matter printed disc) that you have been in possession of since you bought it. Don't torrent/limewire anything. There, I just accomplished everything UAC does. If I'm doing these things anyway UAC isn't gonna save me. False security from a poor OS. Reinstalling XP on my box when I can spare 4 hours (for all program reinstall). Edit: No, no I think I'll keep Vista on. Trying to ease myself into it and maybe get used to slower framerates, clunkier interface, and hardware (in)compatibility. I want to like this OS, I really do, but god bless it....

Hey Paul I thought that only ultimate and maybe business allowed you to use the actual admin account. I know that with premium you can not activate the "hidden" admin account and thus dont have any real control over anything with UAC activated. Also you still cant delete many programs or anything for that matter in the windows files.
I know from trying to activate the admin priveledges under my premium vista that it doesnt work for us.

I have had UAC turned off since day one as well. It's a nice feature but it's really obnoxious. It's not as bad as the Apple commercials like to make you believe but it's annoying none the less. I use Kaspersky Internet Security. It has a firewall, AV, Mail AV, Privacy Control, Anti-Spam, and Parental Control. It also has a feature that's somewhat like UAC and warns me when something different is running and detects changes. For example I just updated Firefox. It let me know when I opened Firefox that the .exe parameters had changed and asked if i would like to continue. I hit yes and it remebers my choice until the .exe is changed again. I love it. It catches more than crappy AVG did.
