Linux has UAC too, just under a different name and it happens less, but you can set UAC to occur less too. Its not a bad thing, but they didn't implement it right.

No, that doesn't say "XP is a more secure OS."
He just said that vista is a false sense of security and that he would later be reinstalling XP. I didn't have to read that twice to understand it. Quote:
I'd like to know how! Seems to be the case with vista a lot... Good concepts, poor implementation.

Sorry, probably should have offered why I'm switching back. Has nothing to do w/ UAC and or related Vista controls. I just got tired of doing 50fps in CoD4 w/ my sig rig under vista when xp would never drop below 80fps, and a whole host of driver issues (not Vistas fault, but creatives/nvidias) that sent me on epic quests through the inter-nets to fix them.
But yeah, my comps a bit less secure, but the main point I was trying to make was that my security is my responsibility. If the airhead in the office down the hall from me clicks on spam email and a week later comes asking me whats wrong, I should tell her she hit too many branches falling off the stupid tree (I probably won't tell her that, but I should) Anyway, good post for Vista folks. You do have good security tools and if you know what you're doing everything should be ok. At the same time tho, if some hardcore hacker wants into your system he's getting in, UAC or no. But it's rare to have one loser like that on your tail unless you picked on him in high school or something. Forgive the thread jack. Back on course now.

That's what you get when you let BASIC coders program an OS.

i mean, i used to run my system with no updated AV software for months on end, and never had issues... fine, my pc didn't have an internet connection, but still... even now i'd not be scared of turning off my windows firewall (not that that does anything, by the way) and AV firewall, and also disabling my av software, cos i know i'm not going to encounter anything that will cause issues. I mean, how many times does it cause false alarms? ie, install some nVidia beta drivers, and the popup comes up. ok, fine, i know the drivers aren't WHQLed, but don't you think if i didn't know what they were i wouldn't be asking to install them? things like that constantly pop up and frankly insult my PC intelligence. for noobs, perhaps it's needed. but for experienced users. no way. anyone who can OC should know what to do to avoid getting badgered by UAC. even noobs after a while get irritated by the constant alarms and just disable it. crying wolf, anyone?

Like another poster, i also use Comando Firewall and its defense+ engine i belive can do everything, if not more, then UAC.
__________________I didnt know you could configure UAC though in ultimate and busnniss, they should make that very clear and simple and put it on all of the Vista versions! Maybe then people who need it (people who dont have something like defense+ for example) would actuly use it lol .

So true dude you only need firewalls and antivirus software if you visit lots of dogey porn sites or are a bittorrent junkie. lol just format your PC like every two months its cheaper than buying loads of clean up apps and security apps which will slow your PC down and screw with your registry.

I tend to disagree when it comes to torrents. Most torrent sites have user comments under the torrent and if you take the time to read the latest 10 or so, you can see if the torrent is even worth your time, let alone a virus.
