If you look at recent news, CNET (a trusted website) was comprised and was dishing out virus's to visitors of the site, without any user intervention.

just use an updated AV,

i always turn off UAC, cos it's simply not fun having to hear silly reminders to do things i know i'm doing.

just like i always unhide program files and windows

I tried it for about a day when I first got vista and all it did was annoy me. I know its purpose is to add more security but over the course of the year I haven't been using it I have had nothing major threats besides a little bit of spyware

UAC is worst for the first few days as you install and configure everything. I rarely get UAC prompts in my daily use.
