I read up a bit on the driver signing thing, basically there's no good hack out right now that'll disable it permanently. I will have to do the F8 disable driver signing thing everytime on every boot up. That's way too much trouble for the gain. Also, I've found out a few programs that I use regularly do not have officially signed Vista 64 drivers. So I'll stick with XP for now until there's a solution or until I have to upgrade.

Well, you've found the disadvantages, let me give you the advantages: 1: Better gaming. You now have DX10, and with that powerful new machine that you're building, you'll be able to take advantage of it. There is absolutely no difference in performance in games from XP to Vista anymore, and vista even beats out xp at times. 2: The awesome search bar. You ever need to find a file, and you just can't? Well, fret no longer with the new, improved, start button search algorithm. The recent release of version 4.0 makes it even better. 3: Superfetch=awesome 4: It looks nicer. Now, I'm a Linux guy myself, but all of my gaming is accomplished in Vista x64. I've never had a single problem, it's incredibly stable, and super fast.

Are you sure you arent thinking of UAC, because I've never had a problem with driver signing in Vista X64?

Many programs that hit the driver signing error have a Vista beta out (such as ATI tool 0.27 beta).
Vista 64bit actually performs better than XP 32bit and Vista 32bit, so no performance hit.

Where are you people getting the info that Vista64 is out performing XP32? That certainly isn't true in my case...I don't think think I've read any way online that Vista is out doing XP32 in any thing. However, the difference is so minimal that it doesn't matter. The only thing that I mad about is that file searching is so unreliable (which some one has file searching as a plus?), the file browsing is all messed up and if you click the wronng spot you can't go back (the fix for this is to set appearance for best performance), and that file transfer times take longer since it does the stupid calculation of the remaining time. Even deleting a file will take a couple seconds because of it calculating the time for deletion.
Programs do open and close quicker though. Over all I say it is a nice operating system. if XP32 could some how utilize 4GB of memeory I would certainly stick with that, but it doesn't and i am not going to use Server 2003 as an OS for a normal desktop. So Vista 64 is the best option for Windows and 4GB of memory Oh...and I've never had any trouble with drivers. Things like ATI tool will give me a warning but the program will still have most of the funtionality. I only want the artifact scanning of it any way and that works fine. It just can't read my clocks.

guys,
__________________im thinking of install vista 64 as well. is performance (for games and any other apps) an issue on Vista? i've read everywhere that a lot of ppl preferred XP compared to Vista. Even Crysis has a higher requirement for Vista. So I'm not so sure. I only have a 2GB DDR2, is that enough for Vista 64?

To disable the required signed drivers in x64, go to cmd and enter this:
bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS I did it and it works fine.

What is this clicking in the wrong spot thing you speak of? I have no issue browsing through files. I have personally had no issues overclocking my Nvidia 9600GT or my 8600GTS. I have never had an issue with the driver signing thing, even with drivers that aren't signed. You can tell it to ignore that rule. Postive: 1)Vista SP1 performs about the same if not better than XP SP3 in games. (source). 2)The start menu search bar is awesome. I actually hate using XP now. If i want to use firefox. I just hit the windows button, type fire, and hit enter....comes right up. 3)Superfetch is amazing, too. Vista is much snappier than XP because of pre-loading programs that are commonly used. It is kinda funny whenever I load up a game, because my RAM usage goes down significantly as Vista drops the pre-loaded programs to load the ram-intensive game. 4)Aero looks amazing. (If you don't like it, you can use the Win2K theme) 5)Networking is much easier. The tools and options are very well layed out and easy to find. Negative: 1)Old hardware, especially with network cards, is sometimes not supported. (Though, this is the manufacturer's fault for not supporting the card.) 2)It takes an extra few seconds to boot over XP. 3)The layout is slightly different than XP. Nothing you can't figure out after a week with the computer. In short, go for Vista x64.
