You can back them up as a file. Click "Bookmarks" on the top menu in FF, then "Organize Bookmarks..." A new window should appear (Library). There will be a button at the top labeled "Import and Backup". Click that, then click "Backup..." from the drop down menu. Choose the name of the file then save.

Check out MozBackup, it is a utility for backing up and restoring all sorts of features in firefox and thunderbird. All your account settings are saved, your bookmarks, extensions and how everything is set up.

I just save the whole profile folder, then you get everything...extensions, bookmarks, settings, etc. Unless you only want to keep bookmarks. If you're using Vista, you just go to the start menu, type %appdata% into the search box thingie, which brings you to the "Roaming" folder. Copy the "Mozilla" folder out of there to somewhere else for safekeeping. I think there may be a deeper folder which contains all you need, but I just keep it simple with the Mozilla folder. Anyway, when you reinstall Firefox after you reformat and reinstall Vista, just replace this folder back to the same location. That's how I've always backed up Firefox, with no problems. I just did it the other day. You can do the same thing with the Thunderbird folder and have a backup of your mail, settings, etc.

Yeah meto I just save the whole folder with all the extensions and the bookmarks. Plus it saves all your passwords also.
