Hey guys. I recently got more RAM and decided to make the switch to Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Upon installing it, I ran into some trouble: when I tried to activate it, it says that my CD-Key is already in use.
Now, I've never encountered this problem when installing the 32-Bit OS, so I'm kinda curious as to what I can do to remedy this problem. Here are the detailed steps I took to try to install Vista 64-bit. 1) Turn my computer on with Vista Ultimate 64-bit Upgrade DVD in my drive. After language selection screen, I click "Install Now" to trigger Vista setup. 2) Next screen has Product Key box. I leave it blank and deselect the option "Automatically activate Windows when I'm online" and click next. Asks me if I want to enter product key before continuing; I click no. 3) Next screen asks for type of install. I choose Custom (Advanced), select my hard drive, format it, and click next and process begins expanding etc. 4) After several reboots, installation asks for account name, computer name, date and time etc etc, and performs the windows performance test, and then finally, I'm on my desktop. 5) Now, because I didn't enter a product key, I'm only allotted a 30-day trial. So I go to my computer, and run setup AGAIN inside vista. Click "Install Now" and click "Do not get the latest updates for installation" button. 6) Next screen asks for product key. This time I enter it in. I choose not to automatically activate windows, and on the next screen I choose "Upgrade" for type of install. Vista installs again, and once it's done, I'm back to desktop. 7) Now, when I right click my computer and try to activate it, it says the product key that I typed is already in use. This is where I'm stuck. I didn't change my mobo, or my hard drive. The only thing I've changed to move to 64-bit is the addition of new memory and replacing my old E2160 with a Q6600. Do you guys have any idea what the problem might be? I've done a clean install of my upgrade dvd tons of times with 32-bit no problem, each time allowing me to activate it after I'm done. So I'm definitely drawing blanks here. Thanks for your help.

Probably need to call microsoft or something to get it replaced. Without key and activation, you won't recieve any technical support. Either contact the seller or microsoft themself.

Is microsoft's technical support line, (866) 234-6020, free of charge?
