Default Give me the Skinny on Dual Booting?

Well, the new school im going to is not cool to say the least, and makes all of the students buy a mac laptop. They make you get osx 10.5 leopard and vista and im just wondering how dual booting works and if ill be able to do everything i usually do on windows, such as steam or folding (windows client) with vista. I also just want to know how i am supposed to install vista and osx 10.5. I dont know anything about any of this because i havent had any need to dual boot and i am just clueless about operating systems.

Don't worry, vista will work just fine on your mac.

As far as dual booting, the Mac will come with a program called "Boot camp". This is the bootloader that you will use to dual boot. All the instructions will be right there (its very easy).

Either way, after its all set up, all you do is hold the clover key while booting and a menu will pop up asking you which OS you want.

you will need a bootloader. if you go to google and type in dual boot vista/mac osx, there are several tutorials to be found.

You can also try rEFIt

http://refit.sourceforge.net/

That's a nice graphical bootloader for you. In my opinion that's pretty dumb how they make you buy a mac laptop. You could have bought a toshiba or a vaio and installed osx on it.

Well i guess im set if macs come with a bootloading program. And yes it is dumb how they make us buy macs when i can get a decent laptop for that price. Hopefully i can get a desktop later on with some decent hardware Thanks for the help guys

I forgot to add, when i install vista (assuming that osx is already installed) how should i make the partitions?

No hes right, it really doesn't matter.

The minimum sizes you'd want are like 10gb OSX, 20GB Vista, 10GB Linux.

But other than that, it doesnt matter. Just pick where you want to put your files.
