Default Vista sleep mode overclocking BSOD

Hello, I'm having a little troubles with sleep mode which I hope any of you might have the answer to.

Whenever I overclock for a slight bit from 2.4Ghz to basically everything I have tried out, I can't go out of sleep mode without getting a BSOD after like 15 seconds. For instance, I overclock to 3.2Ghz (400*8) with an (atleast) 5 hour steady voltage on Prime95 and I boot into windows. I then use it for the rest of the day untill I go to bed or something, and I put it into sleep mode. Then when I wake up next morning, I press Enter or the on/off switch (whichever I feel like using) and it starts up.

Now sometimes, it starts up without knowing what to do, all fans keep running 100%, sometimes only the videocard fan keeps running 100%, sometimes I get the idea the videocard is just not giving any output but the computer is actually doing something as well, but if it does manages to get in windows (it does actually get in about 19 out of 20 times) I get a BSOD after doing 15 seconds of nothing, or after opening something.

So I thought, maybe it's because I have C1E on. So I turned it off. Didn't work. I tried booting in and then turning it off and then booting in again and then put it in sleep mode and get it out of sleep mode again, didn't work either. It also doesn't matter if I put it in sleep mode 10 hours after I booted up or 1 second I booted in.

Up to this point it only does 2.4Ghz (either with C1E turned on or off), undervolted or normal voltage doesn't matter (I tend to run 1.21 volts or something).

I've tried everything I thought I could try without busting my computer. I hope some of you can help me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Gr.

Had a similar problem. Solved by putting my video card to PCI Express slot 1 instead of slot 2. I put it to slot 2 to provide a better airflow to my overclocked processor.

This problem happened to me, albeit with different mobos, and usually it is problem with BIOS release. For instance, in my Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R, the sleep mode problem persisted until I updated to F4 bios from F2. In my Asus P5Q Deluxe, the problem existed for BIOS release 1204 and it went away with 1306.

If there is no BIOS updates however, I am afraid that there is no simple fix. My observation is that it has something to do with power management issue in motherboard. Like, as if the PWM does not supply the CPU with enough voltage upon wake-up.

Good luck

It indeed resembles a lockup that one would get after hours of uptime with a too low voltage. I was thinking about changing Bios's earlier, but I just haven't felt the urge to OC much lately anymore, I mean, it's a 1.325 VID chip, it ain't going to do much (although I have it stable undervolted to 1.21 on the Vcore at 2.4Ghz, that doesn't show at higher clocks, since I still need a 1.4 Vcore for 3.2Ghz and I need absolute mental voltages for 3.6Ghz --> 1.58V or something).

Hmmm... Well, I can understand that it can be discouraging sometimes when your overclock can't meet your expectations. I think the problem you are having is that you have a nvidia board with a quad core, which is a frustrating process. In my experience with 680i, the highest stable overclock I was able to achieve using the same low VID Q6600 was 3.4Ghz no matter how much voltage I was pumping. And I am sure you know about all this so I won't waste your time. But in my experience, high VID doesn't always mean that you can't OC very well, it just limits the MAX capable overclock of the chip. Good luck with everything else though...

I know very well that it's not the best motherboard out there, and I know very well it also has FSB gaps quite a lot. I am happy enough that it runs 3Ghz on 1.336v.

I knew I shouldn't have taken the damn SLI board in expectance to buy a second Videocard later.

Well, you have a nice overclock as is... at 3Ghz, that's 25% increase in performance with modest overvoltage.

Good luck with everything.
