People often try to paint Linux as a competing OS for Windows. It's not. It's a damn alternative. I hate the current notion that Linux *has* to become mainstream. It doesn't. As long as it remains a viable alternative OS with good cross-platform support it will remain alive and well.

![]() Could've seen that one coming from an ocean away ... The point of the article is to highlight the fact that Linux is VERY different from windows for those who really have no clue as to what Linux is. Let alone its various manifestations. As someone who has never used Linux my first idea of Linux was: "well , it can't be THAT much different ... an OS is an OS , right? I'm sure it'll be somewhat similar to windows... I'll pick it up no problem." And after reading that article I felt as though I had , as someone who's never used linux, a better IDEA of what I was stepping into. And after reading that article I also realized I didn't really know what I was stepping into LOL That is the whole point of the blatantly obvious title ... but apparently it still flies over some peoples heads ![]() I mean if you actually READ THE FIRST SENTENCE of the article: "If you've been pointed at this page, then the chances are you're a relatively new Linux user who's having some problems making the switch from Windows to Linux." Then wouldn't you get the idea that purhaps it may not have been written for you... Oh so experienced user of Linux !? Trolls will continue NOT to get laid because they are, of course, trolls. And the only girls that like trolls are often times trolls themselves and thus not fully human therefore it is akin to having sex with some type of mutated creature ... Cheers to you Troll ![]() It's got to be stressful being that agitated and pissed off all the time. And of course Cheers to those who actually contributed some type of constructive opinion to the thread as well as to the person who created the article and has helped a few of the unexperienced along the way

I read this quite a while back.
It is intended for those that have not used any Linux OS but have heard from their "geek" friends that they need to use it instead of Windows. I have read many posts from those that tried it once and did not like it because they were expecting a "free" Windows OS. Some of the examples are not quite right IMO, but the overall article is good (but long).
