1) Lets not stray away from the original topic.
2) Im going to college and a Mac is a recommendation as ALL the computers there are Macs, and i dont want to face compatibility issues.
3) I dont care about the specifications of a Mac and how they compare to PC's because I have a desktop PC for all my games, i just wouldnt mind a few on my Mac.
4) Im loyal to PC's but give Macs credit for their superior designs and stability.
5) Again, please stick to the topic.

So the MacBook comes standard with 4GB or you can configure it to come with 4GB's?

Macs nowadays come with standard PC hardware right? What is the draw in purchasing a Macintosh? I notice that their prices are not absolutely astronomical, but still not exactly "best bang for your buck", not by a long shot.

So from what I can tell, you're getting a PC, in a fancy looking case with an apple, and MacOS preinstalled? Correct me if I'm wrong here, I don't claim to be a Macintosh expert, this is just my observation.

What would make you choose to buy a Macbook over something like an ASUS G50, or an OCZ Barebones Notebook? Is it a status thing? Like buying Gucci jeans over Levis?

It just strikes me as strange that you're buying a Mac so you can use Bootcamp to play games. Why not just cut out the middle man?

There was a time when I could understand this, as a graphic designer for many years, I preferred the Mac G series to PC's because of the beautiful displays, and excellent performance in Adobe and Macromedia products, but now it looks like it's just the same thing, with a different case, and OS.

Correct me if I'm wrong, this is a genuine question.
It really just comes down to personal preference for some people.

Why do people choose AMD Phenom II's over Core i7, when they know for a fact that intel is far superior?

It doesnt matter, as long as the option is available. In my case, the laptop thats arriving at my doorstep on Monday will have 4GB in it.

The main difference is the software, OSX. Unless you're counting hackintosh projects (and even then), buying a mac is the only way to get a 100% working computer with OSX. If I could run OSX on my own computer as well and easily as I could on a custom build, I would undoubtedly choose a custom build. Also included in "software" is the 1st party software such as iLife (which costs money and happens to be bundled whether you like it or not).

And then there are the minor hardware differences, such as the "mag-safe" power adapter, the compact and simple form factor, the lighter weight, the "special" trackpad and all its features, etc. Those all account for the higher price.

If you were getting the system solely to play games, what you're saying makes sense. But if you look around the forum, there are people who use Linux as their main system and then windows for gaming. They boot into windows just to play games. The only difference is that the main OS here would be OSX, and windows would again be used for games. Well, OSX does cost money, but that's for the buyer to decide whether it's worth it.

It's about the hardware a little bit. But it's mostly detail stuff as I mentioned above, like magnetic power adapters, slimness, lighter weight, etc. as opposed to hardware as in faster CPUs and GPUs and stuff.

Well that's if you configure it. I (and anyone on this forum) would highly, highly recommend that you save yourself money and get the 4GB off newegg or something. You're paying money for 2GB, and then $100 for another 2GB at apple. 4GB of RAM doesn't even cost $50 on newegg.
