Hi, I seem to be having a problem where Whenever I download any type of file from the following Browsers
1. Google Chrome 2. Internet Explorer 3. Fire Fox The files download to 100% then dissapear off my computer completely. I have tried doing a search for them, manually check every place they could have went, No luck. System Specs - Processor = Intel(R)Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 2.39 GHz RAM 3gb System type 32 bit operating system I have heard that this could be because of antivirus software I am currently using : Eset Smart Security Along with Spy Bot If this help, I used to have Norton and AVG both on my computer at one point But I am sure that they are off my computer Any help would be greatly appreciated! Edit: I am not 100% Great with computers so if you don't use to much Jargon that would be appreciated haha Last edited by Prototypee : 05-22-09 at 01:49 PM |

Concerning Internet Explorer: Just click "Open Folder" when the download is complete. Doing this instead of clicking on "Open" will show you where it was downloaded to. But no matter which browser you're using, the best possible thing to do in order to prevent this is to make absolutely sure you know where you're downloading the file to. I mean, when I go to save any file, I always make sure that I get to pick the location and then begin the download. If you don't make absolutely sure of where it's being downloaded to, then it has the potential to make finding the file extremely difficult - especially if you don't know the filename. Now, for some reason, there are times where Firefox will not ask me where I want a file to be downloaded. It will just begin downloading it, and I'll be sitting there like "hey!! wth?! You idiot! Ask me where I want it to be downloaded to!" But thankfully, I can just right-click on it and choose "Open Containing Folder" to see where it went. But it's still annoying. I have Firefox's options set to always ask me first, but it still has its rebellious moments. In other words, I think the files are still there. They might be somewhere in My Documents, or they could be deep in some Temporary folder somewhere with an obscure filename. Now, I suppose the obvious question is: "how do I set up Firefox/Internet Explorer to always ask me first?" (I don't use Chrome, so somebody else will have to guide you) In Firefox

For example: there's a setting in NOD32 that isn't selected by default which does something very annoying in Outlook when this option is selected: it changes all Rich Text and HTML e-mails to plain text. Yeah. All of them. I found this out the hard way and it was purely on accident. I mean, I accidentally selected it as I was customizing all of NOD32's options. But this isn't a default option since most people wouldn't want this to happen. I know I didn't like it. At the very least, you can go through all of Smart Securities options in detail to see if there's anything that might be causing this.

Have you tried disabling your antivirus for a short period of time to test?

When you click a link to download something do you have it set to open the file right away, or save it somewhere?
If you are using Chrome, make sure you open up options -- then "minor tweaks" like so: ![]() Then make sure it is saving where you want and also check the box that says "ask where to save each file before downloading" And I'm willing to bet that you will find your downloads in a temp folder -- that can be accessed by making sure that "show hidden files and folders" is checked under Folder and Search Options. Then go to C:\users\"your user name"\appdata\local\google\chrome\user data -- and downloads should be somewhere under there-- if you weren't saving them to a specific location.
