Exclamation Think you can fix my problem?

First off, I know this is probably the wrong section/forum etc.. but I know your all more tech savvy then me so i decided to post anyway.

I am running window XP Pro and suddenly I am having some major issues. I HIGHLY doubt that its a virus/trogan. I've run AVG free virus scan and AVG free spyware and got nothing out of it...I've also formatted my hard drive and re-installed windows and STILL have the problems. Here's what's happening...if ANYONE can get this fixed for me, you're a real pro.

First off, I can't drag and drop anything. I can right click and copy (or cut) then paste elsewhere, but I can't move desktop icons around, or drag them to the recycle bin, or any sort of drag and drop. Also, very frequently, all the sudden, I won't be able to click anything. No shortcuts, no quick launch icons, NOTHING! My computer acts kinda like it's hung, but the mouse works fine, just when I mouse over a button or icon, I get nothing, same thing when I click the button or icon...nothing....however, I have oddly noticed that if I press CRTL+ALT+DEL, then simply close down the task manager right away, without doing anything, my PC will let me click icons and buttons again, but still no drag and drop.....after a few minutes it'll mess up on me again, then CTRL+ALT+DEL and close task manager again to get back in business...

Anyways, PLEEEAASE HELP! I can't get my PC to a working order even by formatting the HD so I need a real pro!

Thanks in advance

Not trying to give you a hard time or anything...but is your version of WinXP as it is stated in your sig? That could very well be the problem, if true.

On a more helpful note, have you tried Win7? Not that I'm trying to push you away from XP, but a quick install of 7 might tell you if it's an OS problem or not.

Very bizarre issue you've got there...certainly *sounds* virus/malware related.

It does sound very strange so I can't solve.

But I would if I was you do a checklist.
Try a different mouse.
Anything reporting strange in Device manager?
You do have correct XP drivers?
Does safe mode let you do any of these things?
Uninstal mouse drivers and reinstall? Even force generic drivers? Any change?

USB mouse? Different USB port?

it could be that pirated version of XP that you've got there, they can have some weird things done to 'em.

I noticed this when i had a pirated copy of XP, so i agree with the person who suggested trying win7 (Maybe even just a dual install if you dont want to uninstall Win7).

Next time it freeze's up, try using your keyboard to select an icon. That should narrow down if its a problem with your mouse or your software.
If it works, you know you need a new mouse. if it doesnt, you know its a software problem, and windows 7 may be your best option.

Good catch! I missed that.

On topic: looks like a reg key is hosed and it probally is one similar to the lock desktop. Run some reg cleaners (I recommend ccleaner).

and get the OS registered! LOLz XP can be had real cheap.
