The only real compatiblity problems are programs that directly access hardware or memory.... and 16-bit software. Everything else can run in 64-bit or emulated 32-bit.

64-bit Windows runs 32-bit programs just fine, no need for tweaking the programs.

That's exactly my point. I don't have to buy it, and I think it's great.

Your position, on the other hand, seems to want to eliminate that option from the consumer. THAT is always bad, in my opinion.

Besides, as many have already said, the installed base of consumers running on 32-bit-based systems is too large to expect it to just die. Like it or not, the reality is that the so-called leading edge consumer is composed of the smallest market segment. While this part of the market is undoubtedly growing, the market will always respond to the segment(s) which will make the most money, not on a per-unit sold profit margin, but on total sales.

All of the computers I configure now use 64-bit. 32-Bit MUST DIE!

64 bit CPU's have only been around in the consumer world since 2003 (with AMD's x86-64) and was not really common place till 2004. That leaves a whole lot of PC's that can't even run 64 bit.

I do think all versions of Windows 7 should come with 32 and 64 bit version disks. I would be willing to bet the next windows (Windows 8) will be 64 bit with 32 bit as an option, then Windows 9? would be 64 bit only (with a 128 bit option ).

yep, look at windows in the past for proof.

Windows 95 was 32/16, 98 32/16, ME 32/16

Windows NT was 32bit.

Now here is another thing.

x386 arrived in 1985, the first 32bit consumer OS arrived in 1996 in Windows NT, and Windows 95 kinda. The general public didnt adopt pure 32bit till 2001 with the release of WindowsXP

dont count on 128bit OS anytime soon, what are you running that would need 17 exobytes of memory for?

If you have more then 4gb of ram I dont see why anyone would go with a 32 bit OS

My asus g50 came with a 64 bit home premium and I have not ran into any problems or any compatibility issues
