$200!!! WHAT?! PLEASE don't recommend Win 7 to me I need this computer to work by the end of the week.

So I'm building my brother a pc and am shocked at OS prices - i've never had to purchase a retail version of Windows.

The plan was to use my OEM disks to install Vista, then use the product key from his fried laptop and I would end up with a legal and functioning copy of Vista on the new comp. Well apparently that's now how this works.

So I finally wade through the sea of Vista home premium "upgrade" packages and find a full version and is it really $200?? Vista for system builders is $100, is that my only other DX10 option?? I would really prefer using the full version.

Vista Ultimate x64 OEM - $180, that's a deal.

I always thought those home pre. and etc were just crap. Go with Ultimate and get everything you want and can have in the OS.

Windows 7 Beta. Then when it ends, upgrade to Windows 7 for cheaper than Vista. That is what I would do!

The only difference between Ultimate and Home Premium is that in Ultimate you can set a video as your background and play Texas Hold'em.

Uh, download Windows 7 RC. I prefer the RC over Vista Ultimate and I'm only on build 7100.
