I'd personally use Puppy or Damn-Small on a machine like that. Both ISO's are less than 100MB so it shouldn't take long to download either.
You could also try Xubuntu or Fluxbuntu.

It booted just now after an excruciatingly long wait at a brown screen with just the cursor to amuse me. And it still doesn't have support for sound; the videos play just damn fine, the sound is absent.
![]() Luckily however, I just remembered Puppy 4.2.1 includes MPlayer with all codecs. ![]() Will try and see how it works out. Thanks for your help. Edit: @SerenityKiller: I tried Xubuntu, just remembered Puppy a second before I read your post. Damn Small didn't work properly. Thanks!

Update: After 16 minutes of downloading, I burned Puppy Linux to a CD and booted the laptop, it gets stuck at
