I wasn't sure if this was the right forum to post this in because it's a hardware and software issue. I had to buy an IDE add on card to be able to use my 2 80G ATA100 drives because the motherboard I got only has one IDE port. My problem is I'm trying to get windows onto one of the 80GB drives but when running the install windows doesn't recognize either of them.

I know it's a silly question, but... KISS and
sometimes saves the day! ![]() Did you make sure you have one set to master and the other slave? Other thoughts! Will it recognize if you try only one at a time? are you only encountering issues when you are trying to load the OS; by which I mean- are you able to boot to another drive and do they show up then? If you can get into another drive, do they show up in Disk Management? Does the IDE add on card show up in device manager? Have you tried booting to a Live CD such as BartPE? Does it see the drives?

Most of the time, it's a matter of pressing F9 and loading the driver floppy that cMe with your controller. If it's supposed to be driverless, then go through the steps SpcCdr listed above.

It came with a mini CD for the driver not a floppy.

Pretty sure you need to make up a floppy from the driver CD then press F6 when prompted during the OS install. You had a look what's on the CD or gone to their support site?

when you start the windows install it asks you if you want to install a hard disk driver (usually a raid driver) I cant remember what key you have to press off hand but you will see it come up on the screen, with xp you have to have the driver on a floppy you might be able to copy the driver file off of the CD onto a floppy and use that when windows asks for it

why dont you just install XP on one of the sata drives and install the card afterwards then just run the cd when windows finds the new hardware? You can use the IDE drives for data drives and I am sure the sata drives would be faster to run your operating system on

No I haven't looked on the CD or gone to their support site. I suppose I could pop it into the laptop I'm on and take a look
