For there to be a 48-bit operating system, there would have to be a 48-bit processor, and since there's absolutely no reason to make a 48-bit processor, there would be no reason to have a 48-bit operating system.

The only things I have heard 48-bit related to are color depth and hard drive addressing. I doubt there would be a 48-bit OS.

Slightly off topic:
Is 48bit to 64bit as 24bit is to 32bit? (like screen depth - 24bit + 8 padding)

There was no 48bit OS, but I just made one. So now there is.

if you collide two 32 bit os' at 97.34% of the speed of light then you will get an os at 48 bit and another at 15 bit.

Edit: for those of you who are not 'in the know' you will loose 1 bit to keep inline with Einstiens e=mc2

in the computer world, almost everything is 2^n; 2^5 = 32 and 2^6 is 64

Technically yes, but it never came anything close to mainstream. If you want to read into it more, try looking up i5/os, os/400, and the CDC 1604.

Screen depth is a totally different thing when compared to instruction sets/architecures. So the answer is no. And by the way, the 8 bits is not for padding, it's alpha channel (transparency).

@OP - no 48-bit instruction set/architecture -> no 48-bit CPU -> no 48-bit OS
