Maybe, but probably not too likely? I've never heard of a 48 bit os. In terms of windows software, it was the XP era that 64 bit OSes started to rise, and the modern alternative was a 32 bit OS.

This is likely most of the information you'll find on the subject. I can't imagine it would be easy to find more results for on google.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/48-bit

Edit: Taking a further look at that link, you'll see that wikipedia only bothered to make a 16bit, 32bit, and 64bit spot under the category "Applications". Probably means applications of that breed don't exist, or are damned rare.

tl;dr 48bit is not the droids you're looking for.. Actually, there probably wern't any droids to find either.

at the wiki for 64bit there stands:

Quote:
Limitations

Most 64-bit microprocessors on the market today have an artificial limit on the amount of memory they can address, because physical constraints make it impossible to support the full 16.8 million terabyte capacity. For example, the AMD64 architecture has a 52-bit limit on physical memory and currently only supports a 48-bit virtual address space[1].
In the 48-bit wiki:

Quote:
The minimal implementation of the x86-64 architecture provides 48-bit addressing encoded into 64 bits; future versions of the architecture can expand this without breaking properly written applications.
Also x86-64 search for 48 bit and im sure you'll read something about the limitations of the 64bit OS.

But no..No 48-bit OS

To answer the question, no there isn't a 48-bit OS.
