I just got a old Gateway PC from someone, basically they thought they would be nice and give me a PC, though I am sure I will stick with my 7750 Kuma
__________________ .It has a P2 cpu, 32mb of ram, and 6gb hard drive. What OS would be good for it?? Its got Windows 98 now, but I wanted to try Linux or something similar. I know its good for nothing, but I just want to try it out.

You could try Ubuntu but I don't know how well it would run on it.

I'd throw some linux on there even though I don't know how to use it. I don't know too much about linux but some versions come with firefox on them ready to go. I use linux mint on one of my folding machines and it has firefox. There might be some lighter versions of linux that work better than mint or use less resources, but I don't know anything about linux.

I have almost the exact same P2 setup with 128MB running Windows Server 2003. If you can get a hold of a license and a little more RAM you would be golden, as Windows Server 2003 is very similar to XP except it uses less resources.

If you can, obtain maybe some early versions of windows, maybe 3.1 or 95. If not, try and find the lightest linux there is, or else you'll be spending 5 years booting up.

Ubuntu won't work well. Fluxbuntu will though, its super light!
If I were you I would keep Windows 98SE on it though, you could have a lot of fun with old games on Win 98. Believe it or not 98 has aged fairly well; alot on newer programs still work on Win98SE.

Windows 98SE, Windows 2000, and stripped down XP/Server 2003 will all work.
__________________Ubuntu is kinda resource heavy for Linux, but there are plenty of distros that would work fine. Edit: I see 32MB of ram, that pretty much limits you to windows 98 and older. Upgrading the memory would help a lot, with any OS newer than DOS you put in there.

Yep. Its lightning fast on almost any hardware has Internet connectivity and Firefox. Its ugly though.
![]() If you like classic gaming, FreeDOS might be fun to try on that P2.
