Recently I booted up my computer I got the bios screen that told me some info about he PC and it seemed to hang in there for about 10 seconds, then went right to the vista start up. It never did that before. Some things on my pc seem to lag a little now, especially when I tried to to open system restore, it took 30 seconds or longer for it to open. I did a restore back to when things were fine, but I am still having a problem. Any help?

Yes its normal and its not because you have vista, its because all this time with your xp install the bios was pretty much being skipped at startup. This happens sometimes with motherboards.Sounds like its working properly now to me.

Thanks, Although I am sure now that it didn't do that before, unless I am crazy. I am also having a problem now with User Access Control making the screen flicker black instead of fade, which didn't happen before either. I should add, that when I do a regular restart, it doesn't enter the bios screen.

Did you change anything in the Bios?

There is a setting in the BIOS where you can have the Motherboard LOGO appear instead of the normal BIOS list where it shows you the boot process. So I thought maybe you changed it in BIOS by accident or mistake? Another suggestion, do you know if that extra lag time at start up is the BIOS checking the memory before the OS loads? That's another setting in the BIOS that could be checked. But its weird that you mention that you are experienceing some odd glitches once the OS loads. Maybe running a program to check your memory for errors, like Memtest86. Vista seems to be sensitive to memory errors. Did you overclock your ram? Do you remember doing anything that could have brought on these issues? Playing with bios, installing a program, maybe a registry cleaner or something like that? I'm just guessing here. =) Good luck.

hey thanks for the response.

I did unscrew a fan, and put it right back, which seemed to be right before the problem started, but I check that, and it seems fine... all fans spin at correct speeds during startup.

What part does the BIOS hang on? (Whats the last message it outputs before it hangs?)
You might need to press tab to see the messages.

boot priority is the last thing it displays. It is checking for a CD, then changes to HD, let me run it again and see if there is anything else I can give you
__________________EDIT: I pressed tab but it didn't slow down the messages. I think it said "no hard disk detected" in there somewhere.

Sorry for the double post, but it definitely said no hard drive detected. although it still starts windows... and I can access both my hard drives while in windows.

Very bizarre - if it works, I'd leave it. If it packs up at any point, I'd flash your BIOS

I assume since the computer is showing the bios screen in the first place there is some sort of hardware error.
