Thats a tough one. I'd try purging your prefetch and pagefile before attempting to repair your registry. You might just have malware or bad code (from a failed install, etc) in your memory thats causing this problem. Even if this doesnt rectify the situation it is excellent computer maintainence and should increase your pc's performance.
>> To clear your prefetch empty the contents of the C:\windows\prefetch. (Leave the Readyboot folder alone). >> To refresh your pagefile you must first boot in safemode and open regedit. Start->run->Enter 'regedit' (no quotes) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\ Memory Management Now modify Value Name: ClearPageFileAtShutdown Setting for Value Data: [0 = Clear Page File Disabled / 1 = Clear Page File Enabled] Make the DWORD value 1 for the variable 'ClearPageFileAtShutdown'. Close regedit and reboot back into safemode (so the registry properly loads the modification). Now reboot again into safe mode and in regedit change the Dword value back to 0. If the computer is at all slow to shutdown it is only for the fact the page file takes a while to delete. If neither of these tricks worked you can always try a third party commercial registry scanner/fixer. Many are effective at fixing BSOD's and/or bricking the windows environment. GL!
