I am once again in need of your help OCN
A friend of mine owns a pre built dell. it was working fine until his sister shut it off while it was on. When he comes to turn it on it says windows had an error. safe mode, regular etc... no matter what he chooses it reboots back to that screen. He cannot boot into windows. He lost his reinstall OS disk so he cant reinstall windows. whats his problem? and whats the fix. Please help me help him. thanks once again.

Does his computer offer a system restore option?Does his computer have a sticker with the windows activation code on the side?

Well if you happen to find a cd key for windows format the drive and reinstall. All you need is a cd key, most local pc shops will burn you a disk of any os granted you have a cd key.

Most likely one of the files needed too enter windows was damaged or deleted from being shutdown

If it's XP, see if you can get an XP disk from somewhere and boot into the repair console.
Try these commands: fixboot "C:\" fixmbr Then try restarting. If those don't work, go back into the repair console and try this one: bootcfg /rebuild -Hit 'Y' at the fist prompt. -When it asks for the Load Identifier, that's just what it's called in the startup list such as: Windows XP Home Edition. -And when it asks for OS Load options, put: /fastdetect Then try restarting again. If it still doesn't work, your only other option really would be to reformat and do a fresh install... Hope that helps!
