Okay I have a server thats already running, and want to explore some improvement options.

Server runs:
Phenom 99500 BE Clocked to 3.0 Ghz
6GB RAM (2x2GB + 2x1GB)
One WD Caviar Green 500GB partitioned into 3 sections
current OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter edition

Primary use for server (currently): serving Source Gameservers for Counter Strike Source, Team fortress 2, Ventrilo, adding more games when internet line upgrade arrives.

Future use addons:
FTP Server to host light files for personal use, Going to be put on a gigabit home network to backup my desktop and laptops data on a *hopefully* daily basis
Serve as an HTPC, this machine will sit under my 55" LCD screen and hopefully serve as a media center.

My current problem: Graphic driver support for Win Server 08R2 sucks. My ATI X1200 IGP isn't allowing widescreen resolutions and Areo doesn't work even though its forced on.

So can I make Windows Server work with what I want or should I take Windows 7 and cut it up and make it server-friendly with media capability.

Currently, the server is at my parents house until I get fiber in November

Tried Linux?

I suppose you could try Ubuntu Server. Otherwise 7 is your only choice, or Server 03, but that's old.

I've tried Linux and IMO for the media part, Linux just doesn't work as well as I would like, and I would like to try enabling games on the system, can hook up some nice racing game or something that isn't graphic intentisve and play on the big screen

I'm thinking just do Win 7 Pro and cut it down

If you know what you're doing, linux is much better for media than windows (other than blu-ray support)

As far as commercial games however, you're SOL

Yeah I want blu-ray support as I'm getting a BluRay Drive for my desktop (external drive)
