Default Which way is best? OS UPGRADE

I bought windows 7 PRO upgrade and I wonder. Should I upgrade my XP Pro 32 bit to 7 32 bit. or upgrade my Vista Ultimate 64 to the 32 bit 7 Pro. DO any of you see a problem with any of these upgrade procedures.

I see three problems:
  1. You're considering using the 32-bit version of Windows 7 on a 64-bit platform. That's just silly. Use the 64-bit!
  2. It's not possible to do an in-place upgrade over XP. The clean installation option from the Upgrade DVD is required.
  3. I read that it's not possible to do an in-place upgrade from the 64-bit version of Vista to the 32-bit version of 7, nor going from 32-bit Vista to 64-bit 7.
So, if it were my choice, and if the 32-bit version of Windows 7 were my only option, then I would upgrade XP (delete the partition first, then format, then install).

Yeah, from my understanding it's only possible with a clean install.

Yep. The DVD has all the same bits and bytes as the full version, except the full version can be installed on a "virgin" system whereas the Upgrade cannot. You need to prove that the upgrade is legit somehow, whereas with the Full version, you can use it as an upgrade but it won't care.

@Enigma8750- Its funny you mentioned about upgrading to 32-bit OS, but according to your sig, you're using 8GB+ ram. I don't see why you should consider that option in your upgrade. Go for the full 64-bit upgrade to take advantage of your ram.

How is what possible? Forgive me for asking, but I am not 100% sure of what you're asking. Maybe I am tired and don't know it. hehe

I agree. Besides that, 64-bit is where it's at right now. 32-bit is quickly becoming like 16-bit is right now.

Its just that 64 bit Vista has been a nightmare and I never use more than 3 gigs of ram. I have down graded my ram in my machint to help with overclocking. 2 stick of 4 now not 4 sticks of 8 like my sig says. I didnt want to get the 64 version of 7 because I had such a bad experience with vista Ultimate 64. I really hate to get rid of my Xp. but I heard that the new 7 has an XP mode built in. So tell me more. How do I do a clean install with my upgrade 7 pro from my XP partician. Obviously It will see xp and then ask me if I want to overwrite the partician and then I tell it yea. and then I make it do a complete format and install 7. right? Also I will have to disable my velo raptor that has Ultimate 64 vista on it or it will have problems. Or should I pay the extra 10 bucks and get the 64 version of 7 and then put it on my Velo Raptor and delete my Vista Ultimate.

Just do a clean install without using your key (you know you get a 30 day free trial with win 7 same as vista).

Then do the upgrade (to upgrade the clean install) So basically you upgrade a installation of windows 7
