Default Win 7 System Freezing in Intervals

So, my system consists of the parts below, and I recently installed Windows 7. However, I've been encountering a problem that I didn't have with XP. After I boot my system, ever 4 seconds, the system freezes for a moment, then resumes. As you can probably guess, this is aggravating.

At first it didn't start until I started using Firefox. I noticed it was using more memory than usual, and after I closed FF, the system went back to normal. However, it started again after I started transferring music from one partition on my hard drive to the other, and now it doesn't stop no matter what.

I've reinstalled Windows 7 twice already, and it's happened both times. Any idea of what could be causing this?

This will confuse people, and it even confused me, but here it is: after installing Windows 7 build 7100 (straight from XP), I had some problems which were somewhat similar to this. After exhaustive troubleshooting, I discovered that increasing my southbridge voltage solved the issue. However, I eventually found that I not only had to increase the southbridge voltage, but I had to increase the CPU core voltage as well.

So, if you can do the same thing, then I recommend it just to see if it makes any bit of difference. Don't be afraid to make a big voltage increase to the southbridge. I had to.

I've installed build 7100 on my laptop, and I didn't have this problem. Using an OEM version of Windows 7 Pro, I'm plagued by this. I tried changing the southbridge voltage, but it's still here. I may have done it wrong, but I'll see what anyone else says about this issue.

Okay, using some extra advice, I booted my system with Diagnostic mode and there was no problem. However, as soon as I went into my Windows.old folder and tried right clicking some picture files, the system started freezing again. It seems when I try to use this folder, the systems becomes problematic. Is this an early sign of hard drive failure?

You think my GPU drivers might be the problem? I don't recall installing the 191.07 drivers, but I'll try reinstalling. Will 7 automatically update my video card drivers? If so, how do I stop it?

I had to drop my overclock down from 3.4 to 3.33 with my Q6600 GA-EP35-DS3L when I went from XP to Vista64 nothing I did could make it stable at 3.4 I ended up changing the board to a EP-45-DS3 and was totally stable at 3.6

So, are you saying that you didn't install a driver for your graphics card, but you let Windows install the generic Microsoft one? If so, then use one of the latest WHQL drivers. So, go here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us. Then select your graphics card, the operating system, and then click the green Search button. Then download the driver and install it. While you're at it, I also recommend installing the latest driver for your monitor instead of just using the generic Microsoft one.

As for how to stop it: don't worry about it.

Also, whenever you use Windows Update (which is different from when Windows simply automatically installs drivers for everything immediately on the first bootup), always, always, always watch out for updates that pertain to your hardware. Don't install them. Instead, right-click them and choose "Hide". For example, Windows Update will offer a driver for the 9800 GTX+. Don't download it. Right-click it and choose "Hide". Do the same for anything like that. This way you maintain complete control over which drivers you are using for everything in your system.

So, to summarize: download and install the latest drivers for your graphics card and monitor.

Well, I uninstalled my drivers, restarted the system, then downloaded and installed the newest drivers, and the problem persists. I'll try using an earlier version and see if that clears up the problem.
