right now ive got a 120gb drive and a 1tb drive. long story short, the only thing on the 120gb drive is windows xp, but my program files/updates for XP are on a small partition on my big drive.
__________________is it possible to transfer that entire partition over to the 120gb drive, so that i can have all my XP stuff on 1 physical drive, and everything else on the big drive?

If you want a true clone, boot onto a Linux LiveCD of your choice, and do
dd /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 Where /dev/sda1 is the partition you want to copy and /dev/sdb1 is the empty partition you wish to copy to. This does a byte-for-byte copy.

so, i should be able to do a simpe copy paste from the cmd prompt and it'll move everything, then all i shoud have to do is give the partition the same drive letter as the old one so that it doesn't mess with the file paths?

You can download Acronis True Image and use it free for 15 days. I tried a whole bunch before and this one worked the best.
