I'm tried it on different PCs (notebooks and desktop) and it's exactly as Vista. The Aero theme takes about 600 MB. If you don't use it, you can go with 1 GB of ram without problems. But if you start applications other the Notepad, you will need more ram, exactly like Vista. There is a big difference between Windows 7 simply running and a Windows 7 useful. I installed it on an old 3GHz P4 notebook with 1GB of ram without problems, but when I tried to run on it Microsoft Office, it was unusable.

Check out my CPU-Z validation in my sig
it installed with no issued on 384 mb RAM. Biggest issue I have is the 1mb of onboard shared video RAM. While not fast, it does work and I will probably be setting this up as a media file server

Why doesn't your friend just buy some more RAM on ebay for like $1?

You can, but you might not be able to run a program. I believe windows 7 need 240MB just to run.

256 megs of RAM? Windows 7?
HAHAHAHAHAHA um no ![]() Ok, seriously? I guess one trick would be to borrow more RAM, do the install, strip Win7 down like crazy, and then remove the RAM.

Windows 7 will run with 256RAM but it will be a pain. I started running Vista with 512mb trust me it was hell but it run. You wont be able to play fancy games but you can play music and surf the net
