Default Windows 7, OEM and Retail

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the two licensing differences are OEM and retail, right?

If so, I have a few questions.

1. How many times can you reformat, like if you already reformatted with it.

2. How many machines can you have it on a the same time.

3. Would anyone know whether you get the retail or OEM version of Windows 7 with this: http://www.microsoft.com/canada/wind...vanity_student . +Question 1 and 2 with it.

get Retail, because you can make any hardware changes you please, and the licence will still be valid

with OEM the licence is tied to the motherboard, once you upgrade that the licence is invalidated,

you can reinstall both as many times as you like

#1 100 times if you wanted too. OEM must stay on the original computer it was installed on. Retail can go from computer to computer, but never 2 at the same time.

#3 Not sure.

No matter what, for both Retail and OEM it's always 1 Product Key per computer, and never 1 Product Key on 2 or more computers.

For both OEM and Retail, you can reformat and reinstall as many times as you wish. But there will come a time where you might need to add the Microsoft phone number to your speed dial. hehe

Oh, and it is true: we are technically not allowed to install an OEM copy on one system, then retire that system and install the OEM copy on the new system. But, most people do it and get away with it anyway. But still, we're not supposed to because it violates the EULA.

But with Retail, we can freely install it on a system, then retire that system and freely install it on the new system because it doesn't go against the EULA. But again: 1 Product Key can not be Activated on 2 or more systems at the same time. It's just 1 system at a time.
