Default Windows 7 Slowly Freezing After about 20 minutes

I am running windows 7 pro x64 on my sig rig below. It runs great, but after about 20 minutes of idling the computer seems to freeze... Kind of. The mouse moves, I can switch between windows, I can open the start menu etc but it seems that anything that requires disk access causes the program to become unresponsive. The program can then not be closed (you just get the little spinning "thinking" mouse). Any clue as to what is going on here? I have checked the event viewer and it shows no errors at all except that the previous shutdown was unexpected because I have to hard reset the computer when his happens. I have tried to adjust power settings but to no avail. I suspect it may be related to my Sata controller maybe but I'd have to wait till I get hole tonight to check. Anybody have any suggestions?

Take a look in your power settings and tell it to NOT turn off the HDD after x amount of mins.

I'm betting it's currently set to 20

I've been having similar issues after coming out of idle. i have my HDDs set to never spin down, the only power save option i have is to set the monitors to power save after 5 minutes.

Not sure whats up, but it is annoying for sure. Especially having to hard reset, that makes me upset because I have RAID-5 and sometimes that means a rebuild, that takes forever

If anyone figures this out, let us know

Nope, I have turned it off and on and back off and it changes nothing. I can still hear the harddrives spinning as well.

It has not always been like this. I think it may have started around the time I switched from an nvidia gtx 275 to a temporary ati x1300 while I wait for another card to come in. After doing so I ran driver cleaner and it removed everything. I will check for newer drivers when I get home though.

Glad (and sad) to know I am not alone here. This has already cost me progress on a website for a client.

What do our systems have in common? I am seeing intel chipsets... What else?

Maybe your overclocked CPUs are having issues changing power state ?
The core 2 D/Q sometimes had issues linked to power state and vdroop if I remember right.

Have you guys tried disableing power saving states in the bios and see if that made a difference?
