i just purchased the Creative X-Fi Titanium PCI-E card. when i go to install it, Win 7 automatically installs High Definition Audio drivers.. then when i go to the Creative website, download the proper drivers and try to install them, it says there are already up to date drivers installed.
which means i cant install the Creative Console Launcher either. how do i stop Windows 7 from automatically installing my sound drivers?

I would download the drivers and console launcher off of Creative's website then uninstall the drivers that Windows installed by finding your sound card in the device manager.
As for stopping Windows from downloading drivers for your hardware, I'm not sure how to do that.

i did exactly as you said but it doesnt help. Windows 7 still installs the drivers and even uninstalling them and then installing Creative ones without a restart doesnt work.
anyway, im just sticking with the Win 7 ones. all works fine, sounds good, just doesnt have Creative console.

Interesting...I've never had a problem installing the drivers for my X-Fi card under Windows 7.
Try this: Device Installation Settings: 1. From the Start Menu, select Devices and Printers. 2. Select the single device, right click, and in the menu click Device installation settings. 3. Under “Do you want Windows to download driver software and realistic icons for your devices?” select “No, let me choose what to do”. 4. By selecting No, the choice will be expanded. Select also “Never install driver software from Windows Update”. Under this choice Windows will not do any searching for recommended driver updates for that specific device. Save changes. 5. By selecting “No, let me choose what to do” and “Always install the best driver software from Windows Update”, Windows will offer the driver for you to keep under Recommended Updates, for possible later installation. Save changes. 6. The choice to “Replace generic device icons with enhanced icons” is offered only in the manual selection. Windows Update Settings: 1. All driver software updates are classified as Recommended. 2. Check “Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates”. The installation of this updates depend on the options selected under “No, let me choose what to do” in the Device Installation Settings. Source: Link Then try doing what I posted above again.

yeah thats the thing...i had an Xtreme Gamer Fatality before this. worked fine with the drivers.
but this new card is a PCI-E one. the reason i got it was to free up a PCI slot. anyway yeah since the new card, no matter what i do it says that Windows drivers are newer. ill keep messing around with it but otherwise it does seem to work fine. cheers anyway
