Before the thread dies, I want to show you one more thing about the Start menu: if you press the WinKey and then press any arrow key, then you are now free to navigate the Start menu just like you could in XP: using the first letter/character of each item!

Keyboard-only navigation FTW!

Hmm, that's neato, but a lot of the time I find myself now using the search box rather than going through the file hierarchy. Only problem is when I type in "calc" and I get K-Lite's encoding calculator rather than Windows.

My lecturer says the next Windows (or at some point) are completely re-doing the way we find files and search. With the amount of data we have today, hierarchical organisation isn't efficient and they want to change how we find things. He says it will be very good, then blurted out "I probably wasn't allowed to tell you that..."

Oh, yeah see I came straight from XP. So when I lost the ability to just press the Windows key and then the letter "c" for Calculator (as it was in my Frequently Used Programs list), it drove me kind of nuts. I mean, I'm serious: to open Calculator, I just had to make 2 keystrokes: WinKey, C. For Notepad, it was WinKey, N. It was like that with many things since I carefully built that list so that no two items had the same first letter. I even renamed "Mozilla Firefox" to "Internet" to preserve the keystroke combo of WinKey, I. That way "My Documents" would still open with WinKey, M.

So I eventually discovered WinKey, arrow key. Or, WinKey, Tab works too. But anything else keeps me in the Search field.
