Default Windows 7 upgrade on top of XP upgrade

Simply put, I have an XP Pro upgrade edition installed onto a machine that I would like to put windows 7 on, can I install the upgrade edition of 7 onto that "XP upgraded" machine or will it throw a fit?

Would save a load of money if I could.

Yes, but you will have to do a clean install.

That's what I was looking to do, just wondering if it was going to throw a fit about licensing.

Nope, it just looks for a valid/legit install, it does not care where it came from.

Arknor,

First, to determine if your current computer configuration will be compatible with Windows 7 please go to the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...e-advisor.aspx

Also, lease note that when migrating from Windows XP to Windows 7 you will not have an "in place upgrade" option. You will however have the option to select "custom" install when prompted. The Windows 7 install process will then copy all of your data in "My Documents" over to a Windows.old folder within Windows 7 itself. All applications and documents stored in other locations will have to be reinstalled / transferred manually.
For more information on the Windows 7 Upgrade, please go here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/W...alling-Windows
For additional assistance with the migration of Windows XP to Windows 7, please go here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/w.../ee150430.aspx

Could you please contact an moderator or admin to get software / hardware rep status? I don't mean anything bad about it, but it will tell people you are an official MS person, not some random woman posting.

hey i had that same problem all you have to do to install a clean copy is boot of the upgrade disk do a custom install when prompted
when it asks for a product key don't enter one just click next or continue
then when installation has finished
auto run the CD again from the desktop this time enter your product key when prompted then your done it is time consuming but it works
