Simply put, I have an XP Pro upgrade edition installed onto a machine that I would like to put windows 7 on, can I install the upgrade edition of 7 onto that "XP upgraded" machine or will it throw a fit?
Would save a load of money if I could.

Yes, but you will have to do a clean install.

Do a fresh install from an upgrade disk.
Google around, it can be done.

That's what I was looking to do, just wondering if it was going to throw a fit about licensing.

Nope, it just looks for a valid/legit install, it does not care where it came from.

Arknor,
First, to determine if your current computer configuration will be compatible with Windows 7 please go to the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...e-advisor.aspx Also, lease note that when migrating from Windows XP to Windows 7 you will not have an "in place upgrade" option. You will however have the option to select "custom" install when prompted. The Windows 7 install process will then copy all of your data in "My Documents" over to a Windows.old folder within Windows 7 itself. All applications and documents stored in other locations will have to be reinstalled / transferred manually. For more information on the Windows 7 Upgrade, please go here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/W...alling-Windows For additional assistance with the migration of Windows XP to Windows 7, please go here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/w.../ee150430.aspx Jessica Microsoft Windows Client Team |
