Hey, my brother got a Windows 7 copy for me, and he is a student, so he got it for $30. Is it ok for him to give it to me, since he already got a copy from Dell? My dad thinks it's illeagle, is this true? I am a family member, and he did gift it to me, not sold me it.
Thanks

I don't see why you can't use it..It is not illegal. As long it is not installed you sould be ok....I had my son get me a copy of a os when he was in school...

Thanks guys
![]() Do you mean installed on his computer, and then given to me? No, its brand new, never installed. Tomorrow by brother is going to a school lawyer and see what he says, because my dad is not listening to me.

I'm eseb1's brother. Let me clear some things up here.
__________________The offer includes an upgrade to Windows 7 Pro or H.P. for $29. I can also purchase a back up install disk for an additional $13. You must be a student to PURCHASE this. It says no where that you have to be a student to USE it. The thing our father is worrying about is this statement right here: "You shall not assign, transfer, charge or make over or purport to assign transfer charge to make over your rights under these Conditions" And I'm pretty damn sure that only applies to the ToC itself, that you can't sell your rights to someone else, or transfer your rights under this ToC to something else. If there are any lawyers on here, now is the time to speak up. BTW: It's spelled legal. Leagle = legal + beagle?

i went thru MS ToS and all they're saying is that you and your school have to be eligible to receive this offer and it's a onetime thing meaning that a single student is allowed to do this once......he/she may not sell it.......pretty much treat this as an "OEM copy of Windows that only a student can receive for $30".....for use on a single machine.....doesn't matter who owns it
