Default Question about windows 7 key

OK so i got a new HP laptop a while back that has vista 64bit on it and it came with a coupon to get win7 for free. The upgrade finally came in the mail, but i think i want to use he win 7 for my desktop. The disk i got is for HP computers only, but will the CD key work for any copy of windows 7?

Just wondering if anyone else has tried this? thanks for the help!

It is probably an OEM Key, so it probably won't work with a Retail disk.

I had an OEM key and had to download windows 7 retail from a torrent because my dvd drive died. I installed it with a USB. I read that the OEM key will work on retail. I tried it and it worked.

I wanna agree and say the OEM key will work with 7 distros.

It worked for me when I was installing XP and Vista on customers computers so I don't see why it wouldn't work for 7.
