Default task manager

when i open task manager, in the processes list i have 50 processes running.
i have been trying to figure out what they are all for, and wether i can delete any of them. not easy.
SVCHOST.EXE appears 6 times in the list, is this necessary?
surely i have too many processes running. how do i know which ones i can delete?

Ive heard WinTask is a good program that gives you the ability to tell which processes you can disable and what they do.

Having around 5-6 SVCHOST processes is actually normal but you may want to cut down on the amoun of processes you run to maintain system performance..Check out the FAQ in my sig and see if it helps.
