Default woindows could not start......

Ok i have a raid 0 config with 2 40gb hitachi deskstars. I also have 1 160gb ide drive not in the raid. Windows works finw then the ide is not plugged in but if i plug it in and try to start windows ( i made sure the raid config is 1st in the hard drive order) i get this error:

Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional info.

I REALLY want to have this disk in windows as a backup/to run games off of but with this it looks like i cant unless someone helps me out with this.

for starters go to user cp and enter your system specs....your system info will help us answer better.

secondly.....check in your bios that you have your RAID set up as HDD 1 and the IDE as HDD 2 ( or 0 and 1) depending on what your BIOS says.

it's not just a matter of putting the RAID higher in the boot order....you need to let the BIOS know which is the main drive so that it can access the correct MBR.

If its the only drive on the channel, it should be master.

Make sure your boot order is so that the harddrives with windows on it boot first before the other harddrive.

try setting your CD/DVD drive as the primary master and the 160G HDD to primary slave
