As everyone realizes, SMP yields far more efficiency than normal windows console. Thus, a team with more SMP folders will get more points regardless of the actually speed of a computer. Also, many computers are incapable of running SMP. If we are discriminating against those people, i don't see this competition as "fair". Yes everyone has an opportunity, but the top teams are teams with SMP folders. Taeric might not like the idea but it might be more politically correct to keep two competition, one with SMP one without. Though it is very hard to keep track of, i believe it is a way to give non-SMP folders a break.
__________________This idea is just a suggestion and is not totally correct because people choose not to fold 24/7 and we cannot make a separate competition for "non 24/7" teams. I am just intrigued by how much SMP is affecting the competition. A team even came up with SMP-requirement. What happened to equality in this nation? That sounds like a political agenda, but i am sure few of you out there agrees with me. SMP is helping the team generally, but it might be hurting the morales of who cannot run SMP. Maybe we should start seeking remedy other than expecting them to switch over to a better system to follow the trend. Just my humble opinion.

Dude it's about helping people not winning. The competition part is just to add some fun.

if peoples system cannot run smp that is just one sign that it is probably time to upgrade to dual core
__________________yes smp folding yields more points but it also a hell of a lot harder to setup i'm not saying it's totally fair but we dont really need to make a "bad computers or lack of effort" division

I don't expect the SMP "holy grail" to last much longer... my view is that this is beta software that's a pain to setup, and the only way the pande group can get people to try it out is to offer an incentive (more points)...
__________________There were talks that SMP will come to windows soon, so that should make it more accessible... I do agree with your point, especially in the beginning. I remember in December (November even) I was racking up more points than entire teams... (I was running native at the time too!) I think the SMP points may be a little TOO generous, but as already stated, the time and effort that it takes to get things setup and the need for technically inclined beta testers might be why there isn't balance.

More subgroups? One could argue that we should limit C2Ds because some people have socket As and pentium 3s. If you want to show them up, get the hardware

There are a lot of us that are geeks, but very very very competitive geeks. This is our competition, and the OCN team as a whole has benefited because of this. Because of the sub-team race, there has been many people *ahem* me *ahem* that has bought new hardware to try to fold as fast as possible. This in turn helping out Stanford, and the OCN team as a whole. The sub-teams may be the 'winners' in the OCN competition, but the real winner is Stanford, who gains so much due to our blazing fast folding.
