Damn! The RAM still is not working, so I'm going to take apart the PC now.

(I hate push pins!)

I switched in the AsRock and the RAM still works! I'm going to fold on this system at 2.66 Ghz just to be safe. I've hit 2.85Ghz on the AsRock, but I don't want to take the risk.

The last time I had that error, I redownloaded everything reinstalled it.

I have even more bad news now. When I leave for college, my parents are going to keep both of my folding rigs turned off for most of the time. They say that all the computers do is "eat electricity" and "expel poison gas"...

Both of them are quite annoyed that I leave my computers on to do "research." I try to explain to them what it is, but they keep thinking that it will mess up my schoolwork. They say I can do such research later on and the people can use their own computers for their research. But all I want to do is contribute to the cause!

Well anyways, what this means for the team is a maimed captain/director. All I'll have is a Pentium M 1.73Ghz after 8/16 that I may not run 24/7 since it is a laptop (Dell ).

So much potential folding lost I almost wanted to bring all my computers to college!! But my parents would cut off the payment for tuition...and then I'd have more problems than "poison gas."

I guess I'll fold as much as possible until that date...hopefully one you guys can hold up for me

Wow, that sux!
Parents are always finicky like that. I just find telling them as little as possible is the best route.
You can't take at least one of your folding rigs to school? Since it is better than your laptop and is more reliable (laptops seem to break easily) you should be allowed to have it. You might have to promise to turn it off when you aren't using it and not "research" with it either. (Though...what mama don't know won't hurt her)

The fact is that they aren't allowing you to do this because they don't understand it (and may not ever). Your parents could be different than mine, but if you "NEED" your better desktop for school, you should be able to bring it!

Again, I'm sorry to hear this!

EDIT: Also, it is irritating I have a 3rd computer here (again with a Pentium D) that I can't fold with. The stupid HD broke and I sent it back to newegg last week. I got it to boot into Knoppix, but I can't get it to connect to the internet or load F@H. O well, the HD is supposed to be here tomorrow!

They won't allow me to bring a desktop since they think I'm going to play games on it. Which will definitely ruin my schoolwork They know I definitely don't "need" it...

Good luck with the 3rd computer! You can add an extra core for yourself now that I've got just 1 core...

Maybe I should've gotten a different Dell XPS, like the one with the Mobility Radeon X1800...then I'd have 3 cores and...$1500 out of my pocket

Wow, that is a major bummer, hate to hear that. College can be hectic and stressful, gaming helped get me thru it. Helped me relax take my mind off things. Hopefully your folks will have a change of heart and let u take a desktop rig. A pc is essential now a days, I personally would not rely on a laptop. U need a backup rig, especially if u r living at a dorm. I can almost see your laptop croaking right now a day before a midterm lol. U may be able to compromise with them, don't take any games with u, try to show them what folding is. U can always borrow games from a buddy.

Games got me through the last year...I would have gone insane without them!

FYI: The Pentium D is running at 3 Ghz now & I just setup a 1.8 Ghz P4

Alright, I just updated it, but I'm not sure if I did it right. Which cores are you using for yourself?
